So here's the finished version! It was actually done on Friday, but I finally got it back from my art teacher to get a scan of it.
For those of you who have read Calvin and Hobbes, the comic strip, should remember Tracer Bullet, a fictional detective that Calvin occasionally imagined himself as. Bill Watterson used all black and white to make the images, just like this, and did a lot of work with low lighting and long shadows. I made an attempt to learn from him and also tried to make a small tribute to Tracer Bullet.
I guess I should have thought of it earlier, but my art teacher loved everything except for the fact that he's smoking. She didn't mind personally, but she was disappointed that she couldn't put it on display where everyone from Pre-K and up could see it. I agree with her that this probably should only get shared with the high schoolers.
In case it makes you wonder, no, I neither smoke myself nor endorse smoking at all. It's not a smart thing to do.
