Life's Greatest Gifts

Tonight we saw the Christmas lights,
All shining in the snow.
They’ve seemed to glow so much more bright
Since ten short years ago.

To go inside we braved the bite
Of winder’s cold and snow
Yet all the snowflakes seem more white
Since ten short years ago.

My little ones, so full of vim,
Their ages six and eight,
Have dozed beneath the tree’s green limbs
Since they can hardly wait.

These two gifts have no wrapping, though
To me it’s no surprise
That brighter than the lights aglow
Are these two, in my eyes.

It’s sweet to see them by that tree,
The aptness unsurpassed.
For they were God’s own gift to me
Just eight and six years past.

In thinking they’ve the best receipt
They prove themselves naïve.
I also have a gift so sweet
I’ll sleep by it this eve.

It’s brought more joy in every way
Than anyone can know
To wake beside my gift each day
Since ten short years ago.

For every box under our tree
is native to this earth.
They can’t compare to family
In pleasantness or worth.

Though time will pass and snow un-freeze
They’ll always be my own.
I’ll have the gifts God gave to me
Until we’re at His throne.

But my name still is on one crate,
Though I need nothing more.
It spurs me on to celebrate
The One Christmas is for.

The kids have covered themselves in ribbons, paper and gift tangs, just like presents and have fallen asleep under the tree! How fitting. I'm sure they're the greatest gift these two could ask for anyways. I'm sorry, but I think that's probably the most adorable thing I can imagine. These two little guys are so cute!

I had such a fun time working with this. I have to say, I need a lot more practice with complex lighting. This one only had, what, ten GAJILLION light sources. xD
